Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about PinPoint Store Locator.
General
What maps does PinPoint support?
PinPoint supports both Mapbox and Google Maps. Mapbox is the default and offers beautiful, customizable maps with excellent performance. You can switch to Google Maps in the Map Settings if you prefer.
Do I need my own API keys?
Yes, you'll need to provide your own Mapbox or Google Maps API key in the Map Settings. This gives you full control over your map usage and billing. Both providers offer generous free tiers.
Is PinPoint mobile-friendly?
Yes! The store locator widget is fully responsive and works beautifully on phones, tablets, and desktops. The layout automatically adapts to screen size.
Can I customize the appearance?
Absolutely! You can customize map styles, marker icons, colors, popup content, list layout, and more from the admin dashboard. No coding required.
Stores & Data
How do I add stores?
You can add stores one at a time through the admin interface, or bulk import using CSV/JSON files. Addresses are automatically geocoded to get map coordinates.
What if geocoding fails for an address?
If automatic geocoding fails, you can manually enter latitude and longitude coordinates. This is useful for new addresses or locations in areas with limited geocoding coverage.
Can customers submit store locations?
Yes! On Growth and Pro plans, you can enable store submissions. Customers or retailers can submit new locations which go into a queue for your approval.
How do I import existing store data?
Go to Import/Export, download our CSV template, fill in your store data, and upload. The system will validate entries and show any errors before importing.
Features
What are custom fields?
Custom fields let you add extra information to your stores beyond the standard fields. For example, you could add "Parking Available", "Languages Spoken", or "Store Manager".
How do tags work?
Tags help organize and filter stores. Create tags like "Open Sundays", "Drive-Through", or "Flagship Store", then assign them to relevant locations. Customers can filter by these tags.
Can I link products to specific stores?
Yes! On the Pro plan, you can associate products (including specific variants) with stores. This lets customers see which products are available at each location.
What analytics are available?
Growth and Pro plans include analytics tracking for store views, direction clicks, search queries, and filter usage. View trends and popular locations from the dashboard.
Technical
Does PinPoint work with my theme?
PinPoint uses Shopify's Theme App Extensions, which are compatible with Online Store 2.0 themes (the vast majority of current themes). If your theme is very old, you may need to update it.
Will PinPoint slow down my site?
No. PinPoint loads asynchronously and only initializes when the store locator is visible on the page. The widget is optimized for performance.
Is there an API?
Yes! PinPoint provides API endpoints for fetching stores, settings, and analytics. See our API documentation for details.
How is my data protected?
All data is stored securely and isolated per-shop. We use HTTPS encryption, follow Shopify's security best practices, and comply with GDPR requirements.
Billing
How does billing work?
PinPoint uses Shopify's built-in billing system. Charges appear on your regular Shopify invoice. All paid plans include a 14-day free trial.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes! There are no contracts or cancellation fees. You can cancel or uninstall the app at any time.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
If you uninstall the app, your data is retained for 30 days in case you reinstall. After that, it's permanently deleted per GDPR requirements.
